PSG’s long-running quest to hoist the most famous trophy in club football remains unsated and the Parisians are facing a tougher challenge this season after star man Kylian Mbappe left for Real Madrid in the summer. PSV Eindhoven are looking good domestically but have only one point from two Champions League games so far and they face another daunting away-day here.

Our 3 Predictions for PSG vs PSV Eindhoven

  • 1st prediction: PSG to win @ 1.52
  • 2nd prediction: Both Teams To Score @ 1.62
  • 3rd prediction: PSG to win 3-1 @ 11/1

1st Prediction for PSG to win @ 1.52

There’s some real pressure on PSG to deliver a performance – and a win – in this Matchday Three encounter. The Parisians were laboured at best in their opening win over Girona, with only a monumental error from visiting goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga gifting them the win in the final minute. At Arsenal last time they did boss possession but the Gunners never looked in danger after scoring two first half goals.

PSG find themselves in 19th spot in the new-look Champions League group stage table after two games. After this, they welcome Atletico Madrid to Paris, then travel to Bayern Munich later in November. They also host Manchester City in the New Year and Luis Enrique will know that his team have to make the most of this eminently winnable contest. PSV haven’t looked spectacular themselves in two games and may be staring at a second successive loss.

2nd Prediction for Both Teams To Score @ 1.62

While PSG may win, it shouldn’t come as a shock if PSV Eindhoven get on the scoresheet in this, their first competitive visit to the Parc des Princes.

They entered the international break having scored in all 11 competitive games this season, including both Champions League appearances. They had five shots on target in Turin against Juventus and recorded and xG (expected goals) figure of 2.01 in the draw with Sporting Lisbon having had 18 goal attempts. Target man Luuk de Jong may be 34 but he still has the capabilities to cause trouble for the PSG defence, either by scoring himself or winning his duels to create openings for his teammates.

3rd Prediction for PSG to win 3-1 @ 11/1

All in all, I’d anticipate that PSG will be too strong for their Eredivisie visitors here. PSV scored 29 times in nine outings ahead of the recent international break and they will pose some questions of their hosts on the break, likely more than enough to get on the scoresheet.

Paris Saint-Germain, for their part, scored 21 goals in their opening seven Ligue 1 outings this season, averaging three per game domestically. They haven’t had the same fortune in Europe, where no PSG player has even scored thus far.

With Ousmane Dembele to return to the side here after missing the defeat at Arsenal and fellow forward Bradley Barcola impressing in the absence of Mbappe, PSG should have enough quality to put clear daylight between themselves and their Dutch opponents.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-to-Head

PSG’s latest European adventure hasn’t really got the wheels turning just yet. They hosted European newcomers Girona first up and the Ligue 1 side needed a very fortuitous 90th minute goal to get all three points after struggling to break down their gutsy visitors.

That own-goal remains their only strike so far after they were dismissed 2-0 by Arsenal in London on Matchday Two.

PSV were given the run around by Juventus in Turin in their tournament opener in September, beaten as they were 3-1 with Ismael Saibari registering for the Dutch side in the dying embers of the contest.

They looked to be on their way to victory at home to Sporting Lisbon on Matchday Two but Daniel Braganca levelled the contest up six minutes from the end. This looks another tough assignment on paper for Peter Bosz and his squad in what will be the first competitive meeting of PSG and PSV.

Ousmane Dembele was a notable absentee when PSG went to Arsenal on Matchday Two but he appears to have settled his differences with Luis Enrique now. PSV entered the international break having won all eight of their Eredivisie games this season and will hope to get a Champions League victory sooner rather than later.
